The talented Quarterhorse stallion Mister Nicadual, owned by Jerry Kimmel, represents the best qualities of a champion U.S. Reining horse. He is gentle and kind, yet he can turn on the power and give an impressive run in the show pen, electrifying crowds with his speed and agility.

Purchased from Todd Crawford by Kimmel late in 2005, Mister Nicadual was ridden by Tim McQuay of Tioga, Texas. A celebrity in the reining world, McQuay has an outstanding show record as the first reiner in history to reach the $2-million mark in National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) lifetime earnings. McQuay is also the recipient of the United States Equestrian Federation Becky Grand Hart Trophy and a 2006 USEF Equestrian of Honor.

“We saw Dually as a five-year-old and liked him,” explained McQuay. “He’s a very, very fun horse to ride. He’s got a lot of feel, and he really tries to get along with you.”

The young stallion wowed the crowds at the 2006 Adequan/USEF Open Reining Championship, where he scored an impressive 229.5 to win the qualifying event. This earned him a trip to the FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.

Improving on their already outstanding performance, Dually and McQuay brought home Team Gold and Individual Silver medals from Aachen and earned the admiration of reining fans around the world. Vying for the Individual medal, McQuay rode Mister Nicadual to an almost perfect round. Before the score was announced, McQuay entertained the crowd by dismounting in the show ring and dancing a jig to celebrate the exceptional performance. They topped their qualifying score with a 230.

“It was a great time,” McQuay recalled. “We knew it would be fun to go, and exciting, but we didn’t know how fun it would be. I think the people over there appreciate horses, and reining was very well received. They really got into the cheering.”

Kimmel, a businessman from Granbury, Texas, said, “It was a great thing for him in Aachen�"to watch him come up has been amazing. When the individual medals came up, he tied for the top spot. They had a run off and he had to come back twice. He just showed how outstanding he is.”

“It was thrilling for my wife Carmen and I to watch reiners from all over the world,” said Kimmel, “but what was astonishing was the packed crowd of spectators.” It was then that Kimmel made it a life goal to fill the stands with Reining enthusiasts in the United States.

Kimmel and McQuay were excited to have Mister Nicadual recognized as a United States Equestrian Federation Horse of Honor in 2006. “It was a big surprise to have a reining horse acknowledged,” he said. “It was awesome.” USEF Director of Reining Courtney Barnett commented, “Mister Nicadual is a good representative of what a great reining horse is: intelligence, personality, willingness and the desire to win.”

Mister Nicadual continued his stellar competitive career in 2007 as the American Quarter Horse Association Reserve World Champion Senior Reining, the Clayton Woosley FEI / USEF Co-Reserve Champion Superior Reining and the CRI / USEF Reserve Champion at the NRBC Derby.

Now Dually is busy in Kimmel’s breeding program and helping Kimmel fulfill his dream by ensuring that there will be many more outstanding horses like Dually to draw spectators to the sport of Reining. McQuay said enthusiastically, “I’m anxious to ride his foals, that’s for sure”.
